Ralph,

With due respect to your feelings(and I do understand where you are coming from in this regard completely) we decided not to go that route. We have been gay friendly in the past in our columns and postings and always will be. But after discussing how to proceed we believed that hammering Griffin for reasons nothing to do with the Bisons would by wholly inappropriate for the column.

Griffin brought the Bisons here and thanks to his unrelenting will to get Dunn Tire Park built, they're still here. And as Buffalo baseball fans, that we can appreciate.:)

Jimmy Griffin's hatred towards gays was far worse than him calling us "fruits". When he was mayor, he and his pal Degenhart would raid gay nightclubs and drag people off the dance floor for minor indiscretions. He harassed patrons by ticketing and towing vehicles outside of gay friendly establishments. Buffalo Pride festival? Hah! Not under his watch!

I read you guys articles about the Sabres and the Bisons in this space all the time (Yes there are a few of us in the gay community who actually follow sports... a very few of us.) I've always appreciated the gay friendly tone of your writings and commentary in the past. Your "tribute" to a very hateful and vicious homophobic ex-Mayor runs counter to everything you have stood for in the past. Count me as someone who is very disappointed in "the road trip guys".
