Cranes and jackhammers all around Nationals Park

It’s still a work in progress, but in 22 months a seedy and tumbledown area of downtown Washington, DC has been transformed into what officials call the “Capitol Riverfront District”. Visitors attending a Washington Nationals game can see the fenced off lots, the cranes in the air and the construction everywhere. Today’s New York Times has a great article outlining all the progress being made.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Sun does a food face off. Who has the best ballpark food, Nationals Park or Oriole Park at Camden Yards? Check out the article - you might be surprised at the answer.
USRT lands in the District on June 21-22!

I came across this last year looking for info and renderings of the new Nats stadium. This guy has a ton of info on not only the progress of the stadium but also the area around it. I especially like the photos/discussion of how the city reconfigured S Capitol St to better fit the new development. It used to raise above street level a block or so before the river to become a bridge. Now it remains at-grade the whole way through and looks MUCH nicer (check out the “Exterior Before and Afters” page for pics, about halfway down). It screams out comparisons to the Skyway and the foot of Main St.
