Sabres 3, Devils 2(SO)
Ho hum….Sabres/Devils. Sixty minutes, overtime, shootout. This is what has happened for all four clashes between these two clubs this season. And in the end the Devils would prevail.
Must have been the case since Henrik Tallinder wasn’t in the shootout lineup in those games. Tonight the Sabres took the shootout and got the victory in large part to the element of surprise as Henrik’s first shootout attempt (regular season) ever was the clincher in the win. Tallinder faked the future Hall of Fame goaltender out of his pads sending him sprawling helplessly to the ice as Henrik tapped in the easiest goal of his career.
Like the Sabres last game against Jersey, the home team lost a two goal lead to a Devils team that got stronger as the game went on. The overtime was pretty non descript, save for a golden opportunity by Tallinder directly in front of Brodeur that flew high over the net. Obviously, he would get his redemption soon afterwards.
The win snapped a six game losing streak in shootouts and brought the Sabres to within two points of eighth place Boston (the Sabres next opponent).
The population in Pominville went up one and Mike Ryan scored the other goal in regulation for Buffalo, Karel Rachunek and Mike Mattou scored the pair of Devil tallies.
