This is what we pols call “a junket”

The Mayor of Omaha is heading to Washington DC to tour the site of the new DC Ballpark.

Mayor Mike Keane and his delegation want to glean ideas about ballpark related development and how it would apply to their own city and coming decisions on whether or not to build a new venue for the College World Series.

Now mind you, what the good mayor is going to see is a lot of nothing on the banks of the Anacostia River in DC, and a ballpark springing up in the middle of that nothing. Furthermore, any development models and projections surrounding a new major league ballpark would have absolutely nothing to do with a minor league town like Omaha.

Nonetheless, check out the link above and this visit is big news in Omaha. But I’ll call it for what it is… a junket, and a nonsensical one at that.

the DC ballpark project is intense and huge on a scale that only economies like DC can take on.

worst part of DC which is actually a punchline…

and now its becoming nothing but class A office space, quality retail, and high-middle end housing all over to create a “ballpark” district…what will probably become as awesome as the “new arts district/chinatown” which was also completely overhauled by a sports facility (MCI Center)

Omaha’s economy couldn’t do that even in a dream.
