$10 gets you into The Ralph on New Years Day
Want to be a part of the big New Years Day extravaganza at Ralph Wilson Stadium? That’s when the Buffalo Sabres take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the much anticipated outdoor hockey game. Well, if you don’t mind sitting in a partially obstructed seat, then $10 will get you in the door.
WNYMedia has learned exclusively that ticket prices for the big event have been set from $10 for the first few rows of the 100 level seating bowl, which are labeled as obstructed view, to $203 for those heated club seats under the overhang.
We obtained a copy of the pricing chart through an unnamed contact, but were unable to reach Sabres PR spokesman Mike Gilbert this afternoon for verification or further comment.
I suppose we could just post all the info we have right here, but why steal all the hoopla and thunder from the NHL and the Sabres? So we are giving you a taste for now, and like everyone else, will wait to lay out the whole picture and all the story when the league holds its press conference on Monday.
Nonetheless, kind of cool to have this info at WNYMedia, eh? If you were a fan of the old black and white Superman serial, then you’d know that this is what Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen would refer to as “a scoop”!

Wow, $10? I’m sure the seat won’t be too great, but you can’t beat a $10 ticket to the biggest sporting event in Buffalo’s history. This is going to be something we all tell our kids about someday.

Pauldub is right… None of this makes sense. How can you charge, what, $25 to park and then just $10 for a game ticket to an NHL game?
This morning I checked the websites of all 3 TV stations, the Buffalo News and some unofficial Sabres fans sites, and there is absolutely no sniff of any of this info. Furthermore YOU even admit that the Sabres wouldn’t return your call to confirm this.
I know you guys at WNY media like to play big time reporters and have this splashed all over your web pages this morning. In reality you are just tiny little fish swimming in a pond of sharks. So Andrew, I hope you and Peter are man enough to come on here tomorrow and admit how silly you look when the correct info is announced to the public by the Sabres. My guess is you will hastily delete this posting and hope no one really noticed or did a screenshot. Whoops! Too late! Got it done and printed!

I’m pretty positive I’m going to pay 25 bucks to park in Toronto Tuesday when I head up there for the Jays/Red Sox game and my tickets were 9 bucks so it’s not exactly unheard of to pay more to park then for tickets to a sporting event.
As for the feasibility of 10 dollar seats, it’s hard to really charge someone more then a nominal fee to sit in an obstructed view seat where they can’t see the game. It may be a ‘game ticket’ to an NHL game but when you can’t see the puck, it’s hardly worth the same price as a better seat. My guess is they’ll have a handful of these available so they can advertise “Seats starting at $10!” when in reality, the prices will be much higher.
Oh and if you’re wrong and this does get announced Monday morning you’ll be back to apologize right?

Tickets to sabres games in Golisano’s first year started at 10 bucks and were completely unobstructed, so this seems about right.

Note to Alex — nobody’s “playing big time reporters”. We ARE reporters. We write for three area print publications as well as WNYMedia. Is accrediation by two of our sports teams (the Sabres and the Bisons) and membership in the Professional Hockey Writers Association not sufficient proof?
